Lord Surya - The Creator of The Material Universe 

Bhagavan Suryanarayan Or Sun God

According to Smartha Brahmans, there are main five Gods in this Brahmanda, in that group, Surya was ranked along with Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Devi Shakti Mata, and Lord Ganesha.  Vaishnava and Smartha are the two main sects in Brahmins, one who prays Lord Vishnu as their main deity are called Vaishnava or the devotees of Vishnu.  And the second sect called Smartha are the devotees of Lord Shiva and pray Shiva is their main deity.  One more small sect called the Saura sect worships Surya as the supreme deity.  There are a number of small groups who worship Surya as their main deity.  And they believe only in Surya Bhagavan and no other than Surya and called Him as Surya Narayana. Surya Bhagavan is known for His solar characteristics.  In Hinduism, Lord Surya is worshiped as Surya Bhagavan or Sun God.

Lord Surya is Known as an all-seeing God

According to the record of Puranas, the weapons of the Gods were made up of the rays of the Surya Bhagwan, whose full emanation was too bright to bear. Here Puranas are the collections of Hindu myths and legends.  The power of brightness of Surya's rays is to dispel the darkness of the World, and also believed that cure the diseases and illuminate the World. The Vedas of ancient India is glorified, that Surya Bhagavan is an all-seeing God Who observes both the good and evil deeds of human beings.  It is the strong belief of His devotees that He expels not only darkness but also evil dreams, and diseases.



Lord Surya is the Mythological Father of Many Famous Sons

Manu, the progenitor of the human race was the Son of Surya Bhagavan, this Lord Surya is the mythological father of many famous sons including Yama and Shani Deva, here Yama is the God of the dead and Shani is the God of the obstacle creator, to teach right things in the right way.  Then Ashvini Kumars the twin physicians to the Gods are also the sons of Surya Bhagavan. Karna, a great warrior in Mahabharata battle as well as in the Mahabharata story was the son of Lord Surya.  Karna was born to Kuntidevi, the unmarried princes by chanting of a Mantra and praying Sun God, she got a son called Karna, then he was called "Sutaputra" meaning the son of the person one who drives the chariot.  And lastly Sugriva, king of the monkeys in the Ramayana, king Sugriva took the help of Lord Rama to punish his strong brother Valli and then helped Rama to win the war with wicked Ravana.

Bhagavan Surya as a creator of the Prakriti or the Material Universe

According to the Vedas, the "Prakriti" meaning material Universe is created by Lord Surya.  In the series of Vedic texts, Bhagvan Surya is one of the most important  Trinities along with 'Agni', and either 'Vayu or Indra', here Agni is fire God, Vayu is represented to Air and Indra is the King and leader of all Gods. According to the Brahman meaning the Hindu metaphysical concept, three are an important and equivalent icon in the creation of the material Universe.  Further, in the Brahmanas the series of Vedic literature, Lord Surya and Agni, together chants in the 'Vedic Mantra' meaning hymn. In this hymn Lord Surya and Lord Agni are highly praised for their representation of a day, Surya Bhagavan is revered for the daytime, while Agni for its role during the night time. According to the Kapila Vatsyayan, what the ideas evolve states that, where Surya is stated to be Agni as the first principle and the seed of the universe. According to the Brahmanas series of the Vedas, and in the Upanishads, ultimately it is declared that Lord Surya is explicitly linked to the power of sight, to visual perception, knowledge, and the creator of the material universe.

Lord Surya In Mahabharata Epics

In Mahabharata, the epic Lord Surya is described as the "Eye of the Universe, "Atma of Sarvabhutanam" meaning Soul of all existence, the origin of all life to exist on this Brahmanda, the goal of the Samkhyas and Yogis, and symbolism for freedom and spiritual emancipation. The Mahabharata epic opens its chapter on Surya that reverentially calls him as the "eye of the universe, the soul of all existence, the origin of all life, the ultimate goal of the Karma Yogis and Gnyana Yogis, and symbolism for freedom and spiritual activities.
