Sri Lanka Shankari Devi Shakti Peetha

A few facts about the existence of Shankari Devi temple

The Shankari Devi Shakti Peetha temple is in Sri Lanka at Trimkomali.  The present temple is built by the devotees, in 1952, after getting the original statues of Mata Shankari Devi and Ganesh idol in a well, in 1950, where the original temple has previously existed.  The Original Temple was built by Ten Headed Demon Ravana on one pillar but it was destroyed by the Portuguese between the 16th and 17th centuries.

Mata Shankari Devi Shakti Peetham

According to the local priest’s story, the Portuguese who invaded the island in the 17th century completely destroyed the original Shankari Devi temple by using a heavy round missile shot from a cannon, from their ship and demolished the cliff of the Mata Shankari Devi temple by leaving a pillar alone.  The previous beautiful temple was built on a single pillar and now the pillar is the witness of the "Existence of the Shankari Devi Temple".  And a lonely pillar stands, like a silent spectator.

This famous temple of Mata Shankari Devi is said to be located in the famous town of Trincomalee on the east coast, in Sri Lanka.

Trincomalee Mata Shankari Devi Shakti Peetha

If I told you, "Sri Lanka is a war-torn nation" nothing is going wrong, because of its beautiful and rich heritage as well as its richness, Sri Lanka was severely damaged by a long war, especially of different groups of different countries like China, Portuguese, and England.  Still, Sri Lanka protects its beauties as it is.  This we can say proudly by visiting "Trincomalee Shankari Devi Shakti Peetham".  In this Shakti Peetham, The Shiva Temple also called the Shankari temple, was recent construction, constructed in 1952 by the local devotees.  Here Lord Shiva is calling TRIKONESHVARA, because the temple is located in Trincomalee, which is actually called TRI CONA MALAI, meaning a triangle-shaped hill.  And Shiva is also called Eshwara then famous as Trikoneshwara.  At the same time, next to the Lord Shiva temple a small Shaankari Devi temple was also built, which is now famous as Mata Shankari Devi or Shankari Devi Shakti Peetha.  This Shankari Devi temple is high "Shraddha Kendra" for Hindus and all one who believed and worship Her.  Here "Shraddha" means believing or high trust.  And this Mata Shankari Devi temple is the first Shakti Peetha out of 18 Maha or major Shakti Peethas because Her groin was fallen here.  Dhyana Shloka of Devi Shankari Mata describes the place where Scholar Ravana had built Shankari Devi’s temple is believed to be the exact spot where the groin of Sati is said to have fallen.  On the magnificent cliff where the temple was built, is looking like another Kailasha.

About Bilva Tree

A few hundred meters above the Indian Ocean, on the edge of the hill near the temple a Bilva tree is also present, a Bilva tree is a sacred plant to all the Hindus, and the leaves of the Bilva are three in combined and looks like three eyes of Lord Shiva.  All Hindus, whenever and where ever they worshiped Lord Shiva, definitely try to offer Bilva leaves without fail.  That's why Bilva is very famous wherever Shiva Temple is existing. The surrounding of this temple is a very beautiful, pleasant, or peaceful place that seems to be a perfect rural paradise.   It is an exciting and spectacular sight to see, because of its beautiful scenery and pleasantness devotees will visit the temple to do "Dhyana" and pray.  Devotees one who visits Trincomalee Shankari Devi temple, they definitely visit the famous Kali Mata temple which is in the heart of the Trincomalee city.  Here Kali Maa is looking very ferocious with Her Rudra Avatar, and Devi Parvati is calling "Kali Maa" also.

Shankari Devi Temple - Bhu Kailasha

Mata Shankari Devi temple is called 'Bhu Kailasha' because we get everything whatever we get in Kailasha such as peace and power.  Here Kailasha is the place where Lord Shiva and Triloka Mata Parvati will reside.  The "Sthalamahima" of Shankari Devi temple is unbelievable and very powerful, here "Sthalamahima" meaning "the place value" is full of positive vibration and positive thoughts.  Because of the positive vibration of the place, devotees will visit the Shankari Devi temple to do "Dhyana" meaning meditation to get the "Shakti and Manah Shanti" meaning power and peace of mind, a little bit more clear meaning is freedom from disturbance that is tranquility, what is the ultimate desire of a person.
