Mathura Janam Bhumi - Lord Sri Krishna

Mathura Nagari, the Birthplace of Lord Sri Krishna, since Dwapara Yuga is famous as 'Janam Bhumi' of Lord Sri Krishna 8th 'Avatar' means incarnation of Lord Vishnu.  The first and the foremost known shrine in Mathura is said to have been built in the palace called 'Janam Bhumi once reigned by Demon Kamsa. This shrine was the symbol of 'Parakrama or Sahasa' of Lord Sri Krishna, Parakrama means a brave deed, and Sahasa means an adventure deed did by Lord Sri Krishna in His childhood days by killing Demon Kamsa.  Kamsa was the brother of Mata Devaki and the son of King Ugrasena and Queen Padmavati. Being a demon Kamsa put his father in 'Karagraha or Jail' means 'prison' and started to rule the Mathura Kingdom with his minister called Chanura a wicked person.  Lord Sri Krishna was the eighth son of Mata Devaki and King Vasudeva when they were in prison because it's the 'Aakash Vani or the Radio news' that the demon Kamsa will be punished by the eighth son of Mata Devaki, and the Aakash Vani becomes true.  Lord Sri Krishna was born as the eighth son of Mata Devaki and brought up at Gokul by King Nanda and Mata Yeshoda as their beloved son called Kishan Kanniah.  Lord Krishna in His the seventh-year punished His maternal uncle Kamsa the demon on his invitation to participate in 'Malla Yuddha' means ' fighting of Pahalwan' or 'highly strengthen man's fighting'.  Lord Sri Krishna participated in Malla Yuddha with his elder brother called Bala Bhadra or Balaram,  both they punished Demon Kamsa and Chanur a wicked minister of Kamsa.  Then Mathuravasi becomes very happy and rejoiced with celebrating 'the Kamsa Chanura Mardhan day' means death day of Demon Kamsa and Chanura.  Before this incident, Kamsa tried many times to kill the infant and child Krishna by sending demon-like Putana but his attempts were unsuccessful.  Afterward, Mathuravasi built a Shrine of Lord Sri Krishna on the remember of punishment of Demon Kamsa in His birthplace at 'Karagraha' called 'the sacred Janam Bhumi.  The earliest-known shrine in Mathura is said to have been built in the palace called 'Janam Bhumi' once reigned by Demon Kansa.

In Matura city the kingdom of Mathura, nearly bearing hundreds of temples, includes several private shrines and 'sattras' (houses for the distribution of alms).  According to the survey, study, and research of the Archeological Department of India, after the Independence and before, everything was existing under Eadgah Masjid and surround the Eadgah Masjid.  



Ancient History of Mathura

Mathura has an ancient history and is also believed to be the homeland and the birthplace of Lord Sri Krishna, who belonged to the 'Yadu Vansha' means Yadu or Yadav dynasty.  Near Mathura around 9KM away from Mathura, at Gokul on the bank of Yamuna river, Krisna infant stage, childhood, and boyhood were full of 'Leela or Mahima' means many interesting incidents took place like 'Putana Vadh' means killing of the demon Putana by drinking her milk from her 'stan' means from her breast when Krishna was one-year-old, Lord Krishna showed His mother Yashoda 'Brahmanda' means 'the whole Universe including Solar System' in His Mouth, 'Kaliya Garva Harana' means a snake called Kali was very strong and full of poisonous, who was giving trouble to the Gokulvasi staying in Yamuna River, boy Krishna fights with snake Kaliya, and brought it to the surface of the water, dancing on it.  Boy Krishna played a lot with His friends by stealing butter, almost all houses of Gokul, and He was called 'Makhan Chor Krishna Kanniah means butter stealing Krishna, Sudhma, who was a handicap, was the best and fast friend of boy Krishna.  Then Krishna went to Mathura to meet His Maternal uncle called demon Kamsa on his invitation to participate in the "Malla Yuddha competition".  And at Mathura Lord Krishna punished Kamsa and his wicked minister Chanura for their cruelty towards the Mathuravasi.  This Mathura Kingdom was ruled by prince Shatrughna, who was the youngest brother of Lord Sri Rama.According to the Archaeological Survey of India plaque at the Mathura Museum, the city is mentioned in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana. In the epic, Ramayana, the Ikshwaku prince Shatrughna slays a demon called Lavanasura and claims the land.  During that period Mathura was coming to be known as Madhuvan as it was thickly wooded, then Madhupura and later Mathura. 

Mathura - Famous as Trade City Since Beginning

According to the Archaeological excavations and the scientific study at Mathura shows the gradual growth of a village into an important city.  It was an important city because Mathura was one of the central places for trade. As a center of trade due to its location where the northern trade route of the Indo-Gangetic Plain met with the routes to Malwa i.e., central India or Madhya Bharat and the west coast.  And most importantly, the earliest period belonged to the 'Painted Gray Ware culture' between 1100-500 BCE, followed by the 'Northern Black Polished Ware culture' between 700-200 BCE.  Mathura derived its importance for the trade center as well as its colorful culture, what we look even today also.

Mathura - the Heart of Brij Bhoomi

Mathura is a holy city for Hindus and Hinduism and is considered the heart of Brij Bhoomi, the land of Krishna.  Lord Sri Krishna is the Lord of full of belief of His "Gitopadesha or Bhagavadgita", the advice of Lord Sri Krishna towards mankind is famous throughout the World because of its evergreen true words accepted by the whole World.  And all the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, "Krishna Avatara" is the complete incarnation of Lord Vishnu as 'Krishna or Sri Krishna'.   Mathura is not just a holy city of Hindus, it is the 'Atma' means the soul of the Hinduism.  On this Brij Bhoomi, all devotees of Lord Krishna feel that they are getting "Moksha" means a peace what they can get in Heaven.  That's why all "devotees of Lord Krishna they want to visit Mathura to take the 'Darshan of their beloved' at least once in a life irrespective, of caste and religion".  The twin-city to Mathura is Vrindavan or Brindaban, where Lord Sri Krishna spent his most of the boyhood with His beloved Radha. It is one of the most sacred places of 'Vaishnavism' means Vishnu Bhaktas that being devotees of Lord Vishnu.  Vrindavan is a very beautiful place with natural forests and some birds like peacocks and a variety of bird species including cows and monkeys.  Like this, there are many places of historic and religious importance in Mathura and its neighboring towns including Goverdhan Giri.
