Guru Nanak Dev Janam or Birth
Guru Nanak Dev was born on 15 April 1469 at Rāi Bhoi Kī Talvaṇḍī village, present-day Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan in the Lahore province of the Delhi Sultanate, but the Sikhism believe that actually the Guru Nanak Dev was born, in the Hindu month of Kartik, generally falls in the month of October or November; known later as Katak in Sikhism. Guru Nanak Dev's Family and Early Life
Guru Nanak Dev was born to Kalyan Chan Das Bedi also called Mehta Kalu was the father and mother Mata Tripta, were both Hindu Khatris and employed as merchants. Guru Nanak Dev's father, in particular, was the local 'patwari' means accountant for crop revenue in the village of Talwandi.

Nanaki - Guru Nanak Dev's only Sister
In 1475, Nanaki, Nanak's one, and only sister were married to Jai Ram and moved to Sultanpur. Nanaki was five years older than Nanak. Nanaki's husband Jai Ram was employed at a modikhana, it is a storehouse for revenues collected in non-cash form, in the service of the Delhi Sultanate, Lahore governor Daulat Khan, at which Ram would help Nanak get a job. Nanak moved to Sultanpur and started working at the modikhana around the age of 16. In His 16th year 'Nanak's enlightenment' or "Spiritual Birth" took place. This Spiritual Birth happens in the month of October that is Kartik mass or Katak according to the Sikhism. And this day is celebrated as the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev is called "Gurupurab".
Nanak Worked at Modikhana
As a young man, Nanak worked hard and honestly and got a good name. Then young Nanak married Sulakhani daughter of Mul Chand also called 'aka Mula' and Chando Rani. Nanak and Sulakhani were married on 24 September 1487, in the town of Batala, and would go on to have two sons, Sri Chand and Lakhmi Chand also called Lakshmi Das or Baba Laxmi Chand. Nanak lived in Sultanpur until 1500 CE, which would be a formative time for him according to the Puratan Janamsakhi suggests, and in his numerous allusions to governmental structure (the way of life system or the political influenced Government system or human beliefs) in his hymns, most likely gained at this time.

Kartik Mass as the Janam Din or Birthday
There may be several reasons for the adoption of the Kartik mass birthdate by the Sikh community. For one, it may have been the date of Nanak's enlightenment or "spiritual birth" took place in 1496, on His 16th year, as suggested by the Dagestan-e Mazaheb.
In as late as 1815, during the reign of Gian-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the great devotee of Guru Nanak Dev, the festival of Janam Din commemorating Nanak's birthday was held in April at the place of his birth, known by as Nankana Sahib and birthday falls in the month of April only. From 1868 CE onwards, the anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev's birth - the Gurpurab means 'the celebration of Guru's birthday' - subsequently came to be celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartik month in November and celebrated in Nanakana Sahib.
The main reason to celebrate on 'Purnima' that is on Full Moon Day in the month of Kartik or Katak was that all Punjabis are free from their regular activities like farming etc., and the collection of donations are also collected properly. Generally, donations are used for the construction of Gurudwara, running 'Lungar' means the distribution of food throughout the day, helping poor people and providing education etc.,
Bhai Bala, the only Janamsakhi that supports the Kartik Month Birth Day
Bhai Bala, the only janamsakhi that supports the Kartik or Katak month birth tradition. Bhai Bala is said to have obtained Nanak horoscope from Nanak's uncle Lalu, according to which, Nanak was born on a date corresponding to 20 October 1469 CE. However, this janamsakhi was written by Handalis-a sect of Sikhs who followed a Sikh-convert known as Handal-attempting to depict the founder as superior to Nanak.
Final Years at Kartarpur - The Place of "Mukti Marg"
Around the age of 55, Guru Nanak Dev settled in Kartarpur, living there until his death in September 1539. At Kartarpur, Guru Nanak Dev started to preach His thoughts. During this period, he went on short journeys or 'Udasis' to the Nath yogi center of Achal and the Sufi centers of Pakpattan and Multan. By the time of his death, Nanak had acquired several followers and disciples in the Punjab region, the number was increased day by day.

Guru Nanak Dev appointed Bhai Lehna as the successor Guru, renaming him as Guru Angad, meaning "One's very own" or "Part of you". Shortly after proclaiming his successor, Guru Nanak died on 22 September 1539 in Kartarpur, at the age of 70.

Journeys 'Udasis' - To Save the Life of Mankind
Guru Nanak Dev's Udasis means journeys, as well as miracles, are mentioned in the Sikh janamsakhis, in the Hindu epics and Puranas, in the Buddhist Jataka stories as well as in the Sufi literature.
During the first quarter of the 16th century, Nanak went on long udasiya ('journeys') for spiritual pursuits. A verse authored by him states that he visited several places in "Nau-Khand" means 'the nine regions of the earth', presumably the major Hindu and Muslim pilgrimage centers like Kasi, Ayodhya, Bidar, Nanded, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Middle East, Mecca, Jerusalem, Vatican, Azerbaijan, and Sudan.
Guru Nanak Dev has visited Tibet, most of South Asia, and Arabia, starting in 1496 at the age of 27, when he left his family for a thirty-year period. During this period Guru Nanak Dev visited to Mount Sumeru, one of the famous pilgrimage center, according to the Indian mythology, as well as Mecca, Baghdad, Achal Batala, and Multan, where he would debate religious ideas with opposing groups and the opposing groups were satisfied and become His followers. This 'Udasiays' or Journeys were becoming World famous because in a short time this much big traveling was possible only by the Illuminated Soul like Guru Dev. And its belief that Guru Nanak Dev is Illuminated Soul.
In 1508, Nanak visited the Sylhet region in Bengal in India. The janamsakhis suggest that Guru Nanak Dev visited the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya in 1510–11 CE where Lord Rama was born. Then He went to Kasi or Banaras to take Darshan of Lord Shiva.
According to the Baghdad, inscription remains the basis of writing some Indian scholars proved that Guru Nanak Dev journeyed in the The Middle East, Jerusalem, Mecca, Vatican, Azerbaijan, and Sudan.
According to the Baghdad stone inscriptions in a Turkish script, which some interpret saying Baba Nanak Fakir was there in 1511–1512, one year, while some state 1521–1522 and that He lived in the Middle East for 11 years away from his family. And in Baghdad Guru Nanak Dev was famous as Baba Nanak Fakir.
